The Thin-Skinned Blue Line

A few months back, I wrote about a local TV news team in southern Florida who investigated police deparments in the area. The team went undercover to see how easy it was to receive a complaint form. The typical response was for police to pretend that no such forms exist (they do), and in some cases to get intimidating and threaten to arrest the reporter. They aired all the footage and made the police look like, y’know, corrupt thugs.

Now, surprise surprise, the police are retaliating against the lead reporter. The Broward Police Benevolent Association, the local police officers’ union, posted the reporter’s personal information on their website, and a Be on the Lookout (BOLO) notice, which is usually reserved for criminal suspects on the loose. After receiving words from the TV station’s lawyers, the BPBA took the info and BOLO down briefly, only to repost them, minus the reporter’s personal info (e.g. home address).

I’ve been meaning to interview Ron Anicich of the Bad Cop, No Donut radio show for months now. I need to have him on my show to see if he has any insight into how these krazy kops think.
