PSA: Caller ID Scams
Caller ID spoofing becomes all too easy
Just heard about this today. Apparently some lovely gentlemen have invented technology that allows you to send a false caller ID when you call someone. Hell, one company will let you send a false ID, alter your voice, and record your phone call for you, all for about 17 cents a minute.
Surely this won’t be abused by con artists who want to pretend to be your bank and ask for your account numbers and passcodes! And it won’t be used by stalkers against their victims, heavens no.
And apparently, it has already been used by one political campaign to smear their opponent.
This Congressman is working on a law to ban “caller ID spoofing.”
Be careful out there, folks.

How about just banning telemarketing all together?
I’d be fine with that.
