I live in central Iowa and we also had a station recently switch to this format…106.3 ‘The Bus’ with the whole play what we want slogan and everything. The cutover was overnight with no warning, and replaced the only rap/R&B station we have in the area…which was only about a year old that had cutover from a light jazz station. It’s all owned by clear channel here so no suprise I guess.

Weird.

I read this thinking that the JackFM station in Vancouver was one of many (which I didn’t know), then read on to find that it’s possible that the Vancouver station started it all.

Radio in Vancouver has become a bit of a wasteland of late. The one alternative station (XFM) packed it in and went to a soft-easy listening station about a year and a half back. Jack is mediocre fair that occiasionally stands out against the crap other stations play.

The best station around seems to be across the water in Victoria, but it’s staticy on cloudy days (read 10 months of the year)

The idea that the Jack concept started in Vancouver and has spread elsewhere makes me shudder.
